• What have I learnt in this module?

Throughout the module "Design Principles," I've gained a comprehensive understanding of various design principles, and also the UNSDGs with a particular focus on UNSDG 9, which aligns perfectly with my artistic direction. Analyzing artworks through the lens of design principles has been enlightening, allowing me to discern and appreciate the intricacies of each piece. Delving into the works of artist Davide Bonazzi has provided valuable insights into the realm of surrealism and its power in conveying messages through art. Additionally, extensive reading, exploring e-journals and e-books, has deepened my knowledge of design principles and expanded my repertoire of design techniques for future use. Furthermore, my proficiency in Adobe Illustrator has significantly improved, thanks to dedicated practice and guidance from YouTube tutorials, equipping me with advanced skills essential for executing my Task 3 seamlessly.

• What did I enjoy the most?

One aspect of the module that I found particularly enjoyable was delving into the diverse array of artworks by Davide Bonazzi. Exploring Bonazzi's creations not only expanded my understanding of design but also sparked my curiosity about the intricate details and underlying messages embedded within each piece. Analyzing these artworks through the lens of design principles was a fascinating exercise, as it allowed me to unravel the complexities of composition, color theory, and symbolism present in Bonazzi's work. This process not only deepened my appreciation for his artistry but also enhanced my own analytical skills, enabling me to perceive art from a more nuanced perspective. Overall, immersing myself in Bonazzi's portfolio and applying design principles to dissect his creations was a highlight of the module, igniting my passion for art and design even further.

• What did I not enjoy the most?

One aspect of the module that I did not enjoy was the process of designing for Task 3. While the task presented an exciting opportunity to create artwork inspired by Davide Bonazzi's style and incorporating design principles, it also required extensive research and creativity. Balancing these elements while ensuring alignment with UNSDG 9 added an extra layer of complexity to the task. Designing for Task 3 involved numerous iterations and experiments, leading to a considerable amount of trial and error. Each attempt required thorough exploration and refinement, demanding patience and perseverance throughout the process. The need to continually refine and adjust my artwork to effectively convey the desired message while maintaining aesthetic appeal was both demanding and time-consuming. Furthermore, the pressure to meet the standards set by the module and produce a high-quality piece added to the stress of the design process. However, despite the challenges faced, I recognize the value of this experience in pushing me to stretch my creative boundaries and develop my skills as a designer.

• What have I learnt about myself through this module?

Through this module, I've gained valuable insights into my own strengths and areas for growth as a designer. One key realization is my ability to immerse myself in research and analysis, particularly evident in my enjoyment of studying Davide Bonazzi's artworks and applying design principles to analyze them. This process has highlighted my curiosity and appreciation for the intricacies of art and design.
